A Method to Represent Symbols

A communication picture board

AAC systems use collections of symbol sets to represent meaning. They may include:

    objects
    photographs
    line drawings
    detailed pictures
    colored symbols
    geometric shapes
    gestures
    manual signs
    letters
    words
A person's chronological age, cognitive, visual, and physical skills, should be considered when choosing a symbol system.
