Art & Cooking
  • Provide the child with a switch to operate a record player with paper attached to the turntable and a blob of paint placed on the paper to make a swirl design

  • Provide a method for the child to make choices (markers, paints, colors, glitters, etc.) about their art project/materials.Picture of a boy choosing a crayon

  • Provide a method for the child to:
    • Say, "I like that", or "Hey that looks cool!"
    • Tell a peer or teacher, "I want the blue marker."
    • Ask, "What are we going to do today?" or "How do you like my project?"
    • Tell the teacher, "I'm finished."

  • Let the child provide power for electric appliance used by a peer or an adult

Cooking
  • Let all children use a switch to operate a blender, mixer, or food processor.

  • Make miniboards for different recipes.

  • Provide the child with a method to use social language to express:
    • "Looks good!"
    • "What do we do now?"

    • "Can I help?"
    • "My turn. / Your turn."
    • "Let's stir it up."
    • "I am finished."
    • "I love to cook!"
    • "When can we eat it?"

  • Provide a method for the child to tell his/her peers the directions for the recipe.
