Picture of sand paper model of Jeffery's nameLearning to write their name is usually a motivating task for children at our school. For those children who have difficulty learning to form the letters we have made these sandpaper models. Each letter has a dot so the child knows where to place their finger.

Picture of a Slant BoardMany of our children write and draw better when the paper is closer to their eye level. We had a volunteer in our school make several slant boards to be used in classrooms.

Picture of ShapesPicture of Line DrawingWe have found that placing a dot on the corner of a shape is helpful for children learning to write and cut shapes. The dot helps children see the corner and go all the way to the edge, so they don't end up with circles instead of squares and triangles.

Picture of Shape DrawingAround Valentine's Day the classes were of course cutting out hearts. One of the little girl wanted to cut out hearts but was frustrated because she had difficulty cutting. We came up with this page to show her how to fold her paper and make one curved cut rather than try to cut out a traced heart. It worked and we put these pages in different colors in the cutting center. She loved practicing and we had lots of hearts to use in projects!
